About CalcGrain — Driving License Points Calculators
Free, independent calculators that help drivers understand demerit points, suspension risk, insurance impact, and alcohol testing windows — instantly, in the browser, with no account required.
Last updated: July 13, 2026Our mission
Traffic point systems are confusing by design — every state, province, and country counts violations differently, and official DMV, DVLA, and provincial websites are rarely written for someone who needs a fast, plain-language answer. CalcGrain exists to translate complex rules into a clear number you can act on.
Whether you received a speeding ticket, want to know if you are close to suspension, or need an educational estimate for ETG alcohol testing windows, our tools run entirely in your browser and return results in seconds.
What we offer — 14 free calculators
CalcGrain is a toolkit, not a single calculator. Every tool is free, requires no sign-up, and includes step-by-step guides plus in-depth SEO articles below each page.

Regions we cover
Our driving tools support multiple jurisdictions across four major markets:
- United States — state-level point systems (including California, Texas, and more)
- United Kingdom — DVLA-style penalty points and thresholds
- Canada — provincial systems (e.g. Ontario)
- Australia — state-based demerit point schedules
We expand coverage as official schedules are verified. If your region is missing, let us know.
What we are not
Every output is a simplified, educational estimate based on published guidelines and common formulas. Courts, DMVs, insurers, and labs use their own rules — always verify with official sources and qualified professionals before making decisions that affect your license, policy, or health.
Trust, privacy & accuracy
- Privacy-first: Calculator inputs stay in your browser. We do not store violation selections or personal data on our servers.
- No account required: Every tool works immediately — no login, no paywall.
- Transparent guides: Each calculator includes a step-by-step guide and a detailed article explaining the concepts behind the numbers.
- Regular updates: We review content against published DMV, DVLA, and provincial guidance. Laws change — check the “last updated” date on legal pages.

How CalcGrain builds and reviews estimates
Every calculator on this site is an educational model, not a government system, insurer rating engine, or certified laboratory. The full formula sheet — Widmark BAC, biphasic EtG, and DMV/DVLA point rules — lives on the dedicated Scientific & Legal Methodology page. This section is the short version.
Driving license points tools
Point totals, suspension gauges, expiry windows, and insurance surcharge estimates use simplified schedules aligned with published DMV, DVLA, and provincial guidance for the regions we list. Where a state uses several license classes, we expose a license-type control rather than pretending one ceiling fits everyone. Official abstracts and statutes always win if they disagree with a simplified table.
ETG, BAC, hair, and PEth tools
Alcohol tools use population-average formulas: US standard-drink size (about 14 g ethanol) as described by NIAAA-style definitions, Widmark-style BAC estimates, biphasic ETG decay (about a 3.5-hour fast phase and a 9-hour slow tail), published ETG half-life ranges, and longer-window markers for hair and PEth. Cutoffs of 100, 300, and 500 ng/mL are shown because those thresholds appear in common clinical and forensic panels — not because CalcGrain sets a program’s rule.
Editorial review
Copy on each tool page is written by the CalcGrain editorial team and checked against public NIAAA, SAMHSA, CDC, and licensing-authority material. We do not claim peer-reviewed validation of a personal lab result. When rules or typical cutoffs change, we update the page and the “last updated” note on legal/about content. Corrections with official source links are welcome via the contact page.
