Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information CalcGrain collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed our calculators to keep your inputs private.
Last updated: July 13, 20261. Who we are
CalcGrain (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at calcgrain.com (the “Site”), providing free driving points calculators, ETG tools, guides, and blog content. This Privacy Policy applies to all visitors and users of the Site.
2. Information we collect
We collect limited information depending on how you use the Site:
- Information you provide voluntarily — such as name, email, and message when you use our contact form (sent securely to our configured inbox).
- Automatically collected information — such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and approximate location (country/city level) through analytics and server logs when enabled.
- Cookie and similar technologies data — as described below, including preferences like dark mode stored locally.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal categories (health records, government IDs, precise geolocation) through our calculators.
3. Calculator data — stays on your device
All CalcGrain calculators process inputs locally in your web browser using JavaScript. This includes:
- Violation selections and offence dates
- Insurance premium amounts
- Drink counts, weight, and ETG-related inputs
- Any other fields you enter in our tools
This data is not transmitted to our servers for calculation or storage. We cannot access what you enter unless you voluntarily include it in a contact message.
4. Cookies and local storage
We and our partners may use cookies, localStorage, and sessionStorage for:
- Essential preferences — e.g. dark/light theme, sidebar collapse state (stored in your browser only).
- Consent choices — we store your cookie consent decision (accept or reject non-essential cookies) in localStorage so we do not ask on every visit.
- Analytics — e.g. Google Analytics 4, if enabled and you consent, to understand aggregate traffic patterns. We use Google Consent Mode so analytics cookies are not set until you opt in (where required).
- Advertising — third-party ad networks (such as Google AdSense or similar) may set cookies to serve and measure ads, but only if you consent and ads are enabled on the Site.
- Admin sessions — the admin dashboard uses sessionStorage for login state; this applies only to authorized administrators.
When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept all cookies or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your browser settings at any time; blocking cookies may affect theme preferences or ad personalization but should not prevent calculator use.
5. Analytics
If Google Analytics 4 (or similar) is enabled, we receive aggregated usage statistics such as:
- Pages visited and time on page
- Referring website or search query (when available)
- Device category and general geography
We use this data to improve content, fix errors, and understand which calculators are most useful. In the EEA, UK, and similar regions, analytics runs only after you consent via our cookie banner. You may also opt out using browser Do Not Track settings, privacy extensions, or Google's analytics opt-out tools.
6. Advertising
The Site may display third-party advertisements (e.g. Google AdSense) when enabled by the site administrator and when you have consented to advertising cookies where required by law. Ad networks may collect information such as your IP address, cookie identifiers, and browsing behavior on this and other sites to deliver and measure ads, subject to their own privacy policies.
We do not control third-party ad partners' data practices. Review their policies for details on opt-out and interest-based advertising. Rejecting non-essential cookies in our banner prevents ad scripts from loading on your device.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data only in these circumstances:
- Service providers — hosting, analytics, or advertising partners who process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
- Legal requirements — when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice where required by law.
8. Data retention
Contact messages sent via email are retained according to our email provider's practices. Server logs and analytics data are retained for a limited period appropriate to their purpose. Blog admin content is stored in our database for site operation. Calculator inputs are not retained on our servers.
9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we control, including HTTPS where configured, access controls on admin functions, and secure hosting practices. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- Access — request information about data we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion — request deletion of personal data we control
- Opt-out — opt out of certain analytics or targeted advertising where applicable
- Portability — receive a copy of data in a portable format where required by law
EEA/UK (GDPR): Our lawful bases include legitimate interests (site operation, security, analytics) and consent where required (e.g. non-essential cookies in some jurisdictions).
California (CCPA/CPRA): California residents may have additional rights regarding personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under CCPA.
To exercise your rights, contact us with your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
11. Children's privacy
The Site requires users to be at least 18 years old per our Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. International users
CalcGrain is accessible globally. If you access the Site from outside the country where our servers are hosted, your information may be transferred to and processed in that country. By using the Site, you consent to such transfer where permitted by law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The “Last updated” date reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
14. Contact us
